Artist's Bio Leanne was born in rural Ontario. Her home was on a hundred acres of forest on the border of Ontario and Quebec.
It was here she developed a deep connection and love for nature. The natural, vast environment of colour and chaos inspired her to paint.
Leanne studied art history and theory in high school and painted primarily with oil. She created abstract landscapes of mountains and horizons. She continued her art training at the Toronto school of art in 2000.
Today, Leanne paints primarily with acrylic and experiments with the unpredictability of resins and acrylics. In many instances her subject is driven by her visions that appear as flashes of colour and form. When not guided by visions, her work is created on impulse, where her struggle may or may not be seen on the canvas. Indecision and the finicky nature of paint mixed with resins is present along side the balanced, or unbalanced placement, or landing place of colour. She first brought her art to the public at the Cabbage Town Art Festival in 2003 where she sold seven paintings and received a commission. Her work has since been purchased by both the private and corporate collector.
Today, Leanne is participating in shows throughout Toronto and Ontario and continues building her body of work. She lives and paints in Toronto, Canada.
Statement of Work
My work is not definitive about what it represents, for my inspiration is timeless and my process of creating is intuitive and ephemeral.
My environment has an energy that I connect with. It manifests in me as an intuitive need to express this living relationship through colour and texture. It’s beyond a recreation of what’s around us or what I see. It’s a connection to a life vibration, emotional energy and a deep connection to colour.
I like to start something with no plan for the end. |
