• Born in Edinburgh in 1946
• Attended the Edinburgh College of Art
• Mr. Laird immigrated to Canada in 1965, settling in Montreal for 12 years before moving to Toronto
• His work crosses thematic boundaries and is almost always narrative
• Started by painting seascapes, then moved onto children playing hockey, landscapes, everyday life and bucolic rural scenes,
  structured abstracts and the wide world of golf
• Mr. Laird's superb sense of draftsmanship, proportion and construction are evident
• Started off with watercolours and them moved into oil. He likes muted warm colours and makes his light sources glow
